Search Engine Optimization & Marketing
Overview
SEO is one of the hottest
buzz words in the web design industry today
and its not going anywhere soon. More and
more people are getting websites for their
businesses and everyone wants to be searched
for and found online. But don't be fooled
by the predators in this industry. Some
will tell you that for a small fee they
can get you listed on the front page of
dozens of
search engines for a small fee. Well
there are two things wrong with that statement.
The first is the fact that there are only
three legitimate search engines out there:
Google, Yahoo, and MSN. Almost every other
one gets their results from one of these
three. Therefore its a scam to say it cost
more to be listed on dozens. The second
part of that statement which is really disturbing
is the misleading part about being listed
on the first page easily. There are only
10 websites that get to be listed on the
first page for your search. There are tens
of thousands of websites who probably want
those top ten spots for whichever keyword
or key phrase is searched for. There's no
way that someone can easily get you listed
there and there's certainly no way they
can do it for small fee. Its a lot of hard
work. But if you use the right techniques,
it can be done....
Organic Listings vs.
Pay-Per-Click
There
are basically two ways to get listed in
search engines. One is the Organic Listings
aka Natural Listings. The other is the Pay-Per-Click
(PPC) Listings aka Paid Listings or Sponsored
Results. Each has its own benefits and withdraws
which I will explain. But first I want
to explain visually where these listings
are on the search engine. The image on
the left shows sone search results from
Google.
The area highlighted in
BLUE
is the organic listings and the
GREEN
area is the PPC listings. This is true for
Google, Yahoo, and MSN and each has almost
the same strategy for getting listed in
their respective Organic or PPC listings. The
first thing that we always tell customers
is that it is a scientific process to get
listed in either area. It takes a lot of
practice and knowledge about website design
before one can successfully be listed well.
AZPixels does have proven experience in
our websites listed well in each area. But
before we show you our results, lets further
explain each section.
How to get listed in
the Pay-Per-Click Listings (SHOWN
IN GREEN IN IMAGE ABOVE)
The reason why its
called Pay-Per-Click is because you're
literally paying money every time
someone clicks on your advertisement.
The easiest way to explain to someone about
how to get listed higher than your
competitors is to say that its a bidding
war (the highest bidder is closer to the
top). Who ever pays the most gets listed
higher with average costs ranging from
10 cents to 1 dollar per click. But
that's only half-way true. It is a
bidding war, but there are more things
to factor into your punch besides how
much you want to spend. Put yourself in
Google's shoes - if one site is willing to pay $1.00 per
click but they only get 100 clicks a day
then Google makes $100. If your willing
to pay $0.80 per click but you get 150 clicks
per day, then Google will make $120.00 from
you. So it pays for Google to pay
attention to who is being clicked more
along with how much they are willing to
pay - not just how much people are
paying. So
then the question changes from how much
you and your competitors are paying, to
how do you get more clicks so that you don't
have to pay as much to get the same ranking?
Well I cant share all my secrets here but
there are proven strategies
that will get you more clicks.
Positives: Getting
listed is immediate and results are immediate.
Negatives: Because
of the competitive bidding and volume of
clicks, it can be costly.
How to get listed in
the Organic Listings (SHOWN
IN BLUE IN IMAGE ABOVE)
The reason why we call
this the organic listings and sometimes
the natural listings is because its more
of a natural selection process to be listed
here. To truly understand how this works,
you really need to know how and why we have
search engines (besides obviously to do
searches). Google started out as a
science experiment by two young Computer
Science Stanford Students. They were trying to write a
program which could search for articles and categorize
them based on keywords. So for instance,
lets say there were two articles and one
contained the phrase "tennis shoes" and
the other contained the phrase "tennis player".
If a search was conducted for "professional
tennis players", the second article would
come up first because 2 out of 3 words
in "professional tennis players" was
found within the article that mentioned
"tennis player" while the article
with "tennis shoes" only has a match for
the word "tennis". Well there's a lot
more things that go into the process and it can
be quite complicated. The point is that
articles which
are most relevant to the search get to come
up first. In the tennis example, the
website that mentioned the phrase
"tennis players" was probably a news
article or tutorial about players of
tennis. The website that says "tennis
shoes" is more likely to be a site like
NIKE or some other retail store. This
might be a generalization, but this is
what Google relies on to make decisions. So when someone did the search for
"professional tennis players", Google
must use these kinds of generalizations
to determine that one website is
probably better than the other. Search Engines want to stay true
to their customers (the searchers) so they
will not be influenced by money to list
one website over the other in the
organic results If one website
list listed first, its because it has been
deemed to be the most relevant. This is
where AZPixels can help out. There are hundreds
of techniques that can be used to make your
text more relevant. And many times your
success in being listed depends on how good
of a job your competitors are doing in trying
to be listed well too. But don't be surprised
if not very many of them are even aware
of these things. Its in those situations
that make it relatively easy to get listed
higher.
Positives: Its
free, and once your listed well, you will
probably stay listed well for a while.
Negatives: It
usually takes a minimum of 9-12 months to
get listed well this way
